On the way back from Stockton today, my business partner Oliver Burgelman and I talked all the way home about the new SFR designation (Short Sale and Foreclosure Resource.) A completely new NAR (National Association of Realtors) designation program, sponsored by the local CRS (Certified Residential Specialists) Chapter.
We had already successfully assisted clients in buying and selling six short sales and four bank owned (aka REO) properties. We're currently working on our seventh 'shortie' (above). We certainly do not see it as a majority of our business, more like an act of compassion as we assist clients in either getting out gracefully or purchasing a really good deal. Believe us when we say these are not easy transactions. Each short sale we've worked on has had more than one lender to negotiate with and they're adding a whole new level of complexity with the HAFA and HAMP regulations...
The HAMP (Home Affordable Modification Program) and HAFA (Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternative) may definitely be a good start at addressing some of the problems homeowners face in the rest of the US, however - it do not address the complexities we face in the higher valued metropolitan areas of San Francisco, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles...
